I'm still giddy from tonight's brief get-together. I met up w/ the Answers crew to celebrate the dismantling of the product team. It's not dead, just "under new management." I am not sure of the decision, as it is not easy to transition development, operations, product management, etc. to a new entity.
Anyways, I had a blast catching up w/ the old folks, including 6 of the original 8 team members: Udi, Ricardo, Jan, Amy, Yumio and Yuval. Missing were only Gina and Ofer. Chetana, David and Pam designed the experience, but I don't count 'em because they didn't sit w/ us or work the long nights and weekends.
Along w/ those old-timers were characters who shaped Answers: community managers, writers, QA and product folks. They did the talking w/ the customers so the engineers didn't have to ;) Seriously, I'm a tech dev guy first, but those folks did a great job holding the front lines until the code monkeys could fix their bugs—and plenty of 'em went out to production. Hee hee. It was always team first and everyone chipped in to do their part. And that's what made the product and memories so special.
Twas a great time tonight. I couldn't stop smiling and laughing. I still miss 'em all.
