I'm late to the game as the rest of Web 2.0-ish nation has embraced muxtape.com. Its best feature is its lack of featuritis, offering a simple (you can do about 3-5 things) and clean user experience.

Human beings have a tough enough time thinking critically. Ever wonder why most public debates revolve around absolutes? Republican vs. Democrats? Red vs. Blue? Universal Healthcare vs. Socialized Medicine? Freedom vs. Terrorism? Good vs. Evil? Light vs. Darkness?

Imagine if computers profiled an individual based on their internet behaviour? Will people, living the binary, completely accept or deny?

Should the type of targeted ads served to a particular person define a person? Or how 'bout the blog entry that I'm writing at this moment. Scary. It's not just the Big G, but also Y! and AOL, Comcast, AT&T and all the interested interweb advertising platforms that collect your browsing history, online purchases and search queries.

I wonder if I can run applications on my local server instead of web-based tools to ease m' paranoia.

It could be a brave new world soon. No it won't. I'm hoping not.

del.icio.us 2.0 is coming! After half of a year retooling the webapp, it's finally ready to rear its pretty head! Woo hoo! I worked on the project for two whole months before yanked back to the Answers black hole. Mostly framework stuff and porting teeny features. So, very, very little.

I've been gone so long, that my name had been removed me from the team list. Boo! Give a big hand to Joshua (the founder) and then some hell for removing me. Boo! Hiss! Blah!

Entry: I logged back into Bloglines beta after a two year hiatus after switching to G! Reader and recently .... well, you'll see in a few weeks. They have some nice features. Drag-n-drop this and that, Ajax foo and feed management via folders (though you can't nest folders within folders).

Like I wrote in an earlier blog post, it's not compelling enough to switch back or something i haven't seen similarly on other websites. All that web 2.0 goodness is candy, but there's so much like stuff out there on the interweb, that your sweets have to be more yummy if you want lure users to your product.

Entry: The key difference to what is happening now to the internet versus the bubble of 7-10 years ago is the openness of web applications. Some may say the Ajax-y (I really dislike that term) interfaces are snappy and cool; however, it's just another neat feature to a user. Whether it makes a remote call via JavaScript or makes another request for another webpage is trivial: it does the same thing. Ajax is just another buzzword.

What differentiates the new breed of the web is exposing application data via open APIs. A company can build webapps w/ Prototype, Symfony, etc. In the end, it's yet another closed, walled environment. The market is now saturated with social-networking sites and internet media portals. If your reach is only within your website, your features or your market / niche expertise won't get you to profitability.

Open APIs allow developers to create and virally market products without lifting a finger. They also extend to multiple interfaces, piggybacking on the platform. Mobile, Tv, Media Center plug-ins, desktop widgets, iPhone apps, etc .... A lot of websites concentrate on the web view, new features and attracting eyeballs, but they should, rather, worry about building their infrastructure and API.

If you can't build a solid platform to extend your product across a myriad of internet applications, you're gonna be left out of 3.0.
