2019: A year in review
2019 continued where 2018 ended….caring for my mother in a foreign country.
Initially, I focused on moving here by obtaining Thai citizenship and extensively researching Bangkok condo projects. Eventually, I earned the Thai national ID card and passport. Thereafter, I bought a tiny-ish 2 bed/2 bath condo at Whizdom Station Ratchada-Thapra in Thonburi, a subdistrict west of the main city center of Bangkok.
Unexpectingly, I met a sweet, smart lady. As of January 2020, we’ve been dating for over a year. Like, wow. As my close friends know, that’s wonderful and almost incredible. Personally, I am very independent, aloof, and enjoy wandering the single path, so this is different…. It’s magical as she and I get along well, respecting the space inbetween, always talking through any (far and few) disagreements with kindness and respect. So far, so good.
Inbetween, I travelled to the States twice to pick up mail, handle landlord duties, drive the dormant and neglected Tesla Model 3, munch on proper burritos, and visit friends.
Twas nice to be “home”.
Between the Bay Area and Chicago, I visited as many friends as I could, continually thanking them for the their support the past few years. My friends are incredible human beings. I am proud to be their friend. I am proud to call them my friends.
Ultimately, towards the end of the year, mother passed mid November after a bout with pneumonia. After her first stroke in June 2017 (2.5 years ago), mom is at peace. I am as well, having the time to care for, hug, kiss, and say goodbye to the greatest human being that ever, ever lived.
Onwards to 2020.
